Raffaele Pilla, Pharm.D., Ph.D., Doctor Europaeus, received his Master’s degree in Pharmacy at G. d’Annunzio University in Chieti-Pescara, Italy in 2005, where he also served internships at the Cell Physiology Laboratory and Molecular Biology Laboratory. Prior to his degree, he was an Erasmus Student at Faculté de Pharmacie de Reims in Reims, France. He received his Doctor Europaeus in 2010 from Pitié-Salpétrière Institute in Paris, France. Also in 2010, he received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Physiology, and Pathology of Muscle at G. d’Annunzio University in Chieti-Pescara, Italy. He was hired as a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of South Florida in Tampa, on two research grants respectively funded by the Office of Naval Research (US Navy) and Divers’ Alert Network. He has written and lectured widely on his experiences. Dr. Pilla has been involved in ongoing research at the University of South Florida with the use of ketone esters. The initial work, funded by the Office of Naval Research, focused on using ketone esters to prevent CNS oxygen toxicity. Dr. Pilla is working to coordinate efforts in the United States and Italy to expand the ketone ester research to other conditions such as epilepsy and cancer and its use as an alternative metabolic fuel. Dr. Pilla has also served extensively in various international medical missions, orphan and homeless programs, emergency medicine rescue and training, and animal rescue and fostering. He is fluent in Italian, English, French, and Spanish. He has a special interest in journalism and photography, and he enjoys sailing, SCUBA diving, ultralight airplane piloting, soccer, volleyball, jogging, and motorcycles.

Prof. B N Hazarika, PhD presently working as Dean, College of Horticulture and Forestry, CAU, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh. Prof. B N Hazarika guided a number of PG & PhD students, handled several externally funded research projects and organized 90 trainings. He has published 80 research papers, published 20 books, 25 conference papers and book chapter, 11 practical manual, 25 Bulletins, edited 13 souvenir and 245 popular articles. He contributed significantly in collection, morphological and molecular characterization of diverse genotype of various fruit crops, standardized good agricultural practices for some major fruit crops; introduced new fruit crops in the region.

During 2008-2013, he earned his PhD in Biology and Human Pathologies with the collaboration of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) /WHO, Lyon (France); 2006-2007 : Master of Life and Health, Specialty Biology of microorganisms, Virology in Louis Pasteur University of Strasbourg (France); 2005-2006 : Master of Life and Health, option of Immuno-physiopathology in Louis Pasteur University of Strasbourg (France); 2004-2005 : License of Biochemistry in Louis Pasteur University of Strasbourg (France); 2002-2004 : General Degree in Sciences and Technologies in University of METZ (France). He was certified by the Federation International of Gynecology Obstetrics (FIGO), the Accreditation Council of Oncology in Europe (ACOE, www.acoe.be), the Institute Catalan of Oncology (ICO) for cervical cancer prevention (Grade 10/10) in support of Continuing Medical Education for physicians. These credits are also recognized as Physician’s Recognition Award (AMA PRA Category 1 credits) by the American Medical Association. He was certified, by the United Nations for Basic Notion of Security on the Ground-Protection, Health and behavior, by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)/World Health Organization, Lyon (France) for Safety Certificate. He has published 1 Book with a style of philosophical story. Dr. Xu is a Full Professor in Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC, a full English teaching college in China), Zhuhai Scholar Distinguished Professor, Program Director of Food Science and Technology Program, author of over 220 peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Xu received Ph.D in Food Science from Chungnam National University, South Korea. He conducted postdoctoral research work in North Dakota State University (NDSU), Purdue University, and Gerald P. Murphy Cancer Foundation in USA during 2005- 2009. He did short-term visiting research in NDSU in 2012, and University Georgia in 2014, and followed by visiting research during his sabbatical leave (7 months) in Pennsylvania State University in USA in 2016. Dr. Xu is serving as Editor-in-Chief of Nutrition, Dietetics & Nutraceuticals, Associate Editor-in-Chief of Food Science and Human Wellness, Associate Editor of Food Research International, Associate Editor of Food Frontiers, Co-Editor of The Open Bioactive Compounds Journal, and Guest Editor for special issues of Antioxidants, International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Molecules, the Editorial Board member of around 10 international journals. He received inaugural President’s Award for Research of UIC in 2016, and President’s Award for Service of UIC in 2020.

The overall goal of his research is to understand health promoting effects of phytochemicals. Specific interests include: 1) Complex relationship among diet, gut microbiota, and human health, 2) health benefits (targeted at aging, cancers, obesity, and diabetes) assessment of phytochemicals from natural products; 3) cellular and molecular mechanisms of bioactive components in disease prevention; 4) Dietary polysaccharides and their functional properties.
